You can browse the Steam workshop to download mods to your content. Personally, I have put around 4,200 hours into the game and can easily give it an A+. This is the best part of Starbound and will get you coming back again and again. You can blow things up, loot new parts, and just have tons of fun. Also, in the new 1.3 update, you can build a mech and adventure in space. Planets around Radioactive-type stars have Durasteel, et cetera, et cetera. Planets around Frozen-type stars have a trio of ores called “Aegisalt”, “Ferozium”, and “Violium”. There are many planet types that all have different blocks comprising their surfaces and different ores depending on what type of planet they are. When you teleport or launch your mech down to the planet you enter a large sandbox area where you can dig, hunt, loot, craft and build in two dimensions. You have a ship that you can decorate and expand as you fly it through the galaxy, but your ship isn’t where all the action happens. This game plays like Terraria, but in space. What follows is a fairly generic story of putting artifacts in a gate to kill the cosmic evil called The Ruin through a series of fun missions, quirky characters, and amazing boss encounters. You venture down to some planet and, after mining you meet Esther Bright, one of the last Protectorate remaining. Yes, tentacles attack the earth and you only barely manage to escape. Welcome to the protectorate! Soon you’ll be a real protector and get your fancy Matter Manipulator, (which is a multi-tool that can scan items, dig items, place items, and more). So you create the perfect alien humanoid, and begin the game. You have seven races by default (more if modded.) And can create a unique character with every one of them.
